Carers Strategy 2005-2008

In County Durham our vision is to recognise value and support carers; to provide high quality, responsive services that support them in their caring role, as well as supporting those they care for. We embrace the principles set out by the governments "National Strategy for Carers" and statute and aim to continually improve services that meet their needs.

The Carers Strategy 2005 - 2008 "Meeting the Needs of Carers in County Durham" has been developed and builds on developments over the last decade and beyond. It reflects the need to recognise & value carers, and to understand & support them in their caring role and their own right. Designed as a working document, it aims to apply to all groups of carers, for example, drawing attention to carers of people with mental health problems and to young carers, and should be used to inform practice and to further the development of carer support.
